Tom Emmer will meet with officials from Duluth Metals in Ely tomorrow to talk about the potential for bringing much-needed job growth to the Iron Range. Ely Mayor Roger Skraba and members of the Ely City Council will also participate in the meeting.
Emmer recently sent an open letter to local elected officials on the Iron Range promising “to do everything in my power to see that PolyMet, Duluth Metals and Franconia get the permits they need to bring back much needed jobs to the range.”
Emmer also wrote: “Northeast Minnesota is on the cusp of creating thousands of new, high paying jobs and I am writing today as a candidate for governor to tell you I am absolutely committed to making that happen during my term as governor.
“I am appalled that it has taken five years to approve the PolyMet mine, and that one of my opponents said it could and should take two more years -- to issue a simple permit. This project alone will bring 400 permanent jobs to the area in addition to thousands of temporary construction jobs.”
