Elk River
Another day traveling Minnesota and another day listening to the people who make this state work. Today we visited with business leaders in Saint Cloud and veterans in Elk River.
In Saint Cloud we heard from local leaders how legislative changes to the property tax system for agriculture is forcing farmers off their land because they can’t afford the taxes. This so-called Green Acres legislation will be the subject of a future listening session – stay tuned.
We also toured a local business and heard once again about difficulties with the state’s permitting process as they expanded their facility in order to add more jobs. Regulations that affect the economy must be repealed and state agencies need to help, not hurt our local businesses.
At the Veterans Town Hall meeting in Elk River we heard from veterans about the importance of exempting retirement pay from income taxes. One of my opponents referred to this as a “bribe” for veterans but I consider it good policy to attract these outstanding citizens to Minnesota. We need to welcome more veterans to Minnesota to start businesses, raise families and volunteer in their communities.
Tomorrow we continue our Freedom and Prosperity listening tour with visits to Austin, Fairmont, Brewster and Marshall.
