Tom and Jacquie Emmer in Rochester for the Bus Tour.
Tom Emmer began the first leg of a three day bus tour around the state today, joined by his wife Jacquie and the entire Republican ticket. The Freedom and Prosperity Bus Tour includes stops in 20 cities over the next three days, finishing with an open house reception at the Republican Party of Minnesota’s field office in Minnetonka on Friday night.
Joining the Emmers on the trip are running mate Annette Meeks, Chris Barden, Minnesota’s next Attorney General, Pat Anderson, once and future State Auditor, and Dan Severson, the next Secretary of State.
At each stop, Emmer talked of returning prosperity to Minnesota by growing private sector jobs using a three-pronged approach. First, keep taxes low so take-home pay in Minnesota increases. Second, promptly end government regulations that adversely affect the economy. And third, redesign state government from the bottom up.
“Minnesota’s government finances are in serious trouble,” said Emmer. “State spending has literally doubled in the last decade. State spending cannot continue on auto-pilot with annual double digit increases.
“The future is ours for the taking – the future is bright for Minnesota if we are willing to take a positive approach to the challenges ahead. We must redesign government to provide the services citizens expect in an efficient, affordable and sustainable manner. At the same time, we must create a business environment that will allow our existing employers to not only survive, but to once again thrive. A stable and predictable state government will lead to a stable and growing private sector. This is the recipe for success. This is the future we offer.”
