One of the benefits of running for governor in Minnesota is the opportunity to travel the state and experience all of the summer festivals and parades put on by our local communities. These events are the true manifestation of Minnesota’s great quality of life.

But to hear the media and Minnesota Democrats tell it, that quality of life will be threatened without a specific plan today to balance next February’s budget.

The 2010 election is about much greater issues than what will be cut out of the budget. What this election should be about is changing the culture of St Paul so that government begins to work once more for Minnesotans, not just the lobbyists, legislators, and public employees. Getting from here to there will require real leadership, not just the sharp pencils and green eyeshades of a government accountant.

Government has lost its way, and our state and citizens are the poorer for it. We have seen the development of “two Minnesotas:” one Minnesota where the average citizen works in the private sector and is grounded in the values of competition, hard work, and taking care of each other; the other Minnesota with government monopolies, cozy relationships between lobbyists and legislators, and a culture of entitlement for government unions.

If we make the right changes in Saint Paul to get our economy growing again, Minnesota families can concentrate on what’s really important: which side dish to bring to the party after this weekend’s parade.

Event and Parade Update

We had another great weekend travelling the state to participate in festivals and parades. My family and I attended Manitou Days in White Bear Lake, Strawberry Fest in Cottage Grove, and the Grand Day Parade in Farmington. The turnout, support and response was amazing, and we thank you very much for sharing part of your weekend with us.

Remember, there are parades or community festivals nearly every day all across the state. We look forward to visiting your community soon.

For more information about upcoming events and parades in your area, please visit the Events section of our website: EmmerForGovernor.com/events.

You can also view event and parade information on our facebook page: facebook.com/EmmerForGovernor. We welcome you to share your photos by uploading them to the “fan photos” section.

Lawn Signs

Starting this Friday, June 25, campaign yard signs can be posted. Have you reserved one? Show your support and request one today! You can sign up via our website here. (Installation and removal will be taken care of for you. All you need to do is sign up.)

You may be surprised to know that ordinances restricting campaign signs are overruled during state election years. For 2010, the authorized time frame for posting a campaign yard sign in regulated municipalities is June 25–November 12. Click here for complete details.
